Music Licensing Charges

The club plays music to accompany gymnastics routines. In order to do this legally, we are required to have licenses. We require a Phonographic Performance Licence (or PPL) and Performing Right Society (PRS) license. For these licenses, we must pay a fee. The justification for this is that the fees paid are then in turn passed on in the form of royalties to songwriters, composers, publishers, record companies and performers.

In order to recoup money to pay these fees, the club charges for the supply of pieces of music, this is normally done by production of CDs. The standard charge for one piece of music for one routine supplied on a CD is £3. The same charge applies whether the piece of music is for an Individual Routine or any other form of routine such as a Duet, Trio or Group routine.
